Police Arraign Cashier For Alleged Theft Of Employer’s N16.1m


A 24-year-old cashier, Kingsley Alozie, on Tuesday appeared in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing his employer’s N16.1million. Alozie, who was arraigned on a one-count charge of theft, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of two million naira with two sureties in like sum.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Nurudeen Thomas, had told the court that the accused committed the offence in January, 2014 and in November, 2015 at G.O.C. Company, Lagos Island. Thomas said that the accused stole N16.1 million belonging to Osita Izuchukwu, his employer.
“The accused was a cashier at Izuchukwu’s Pharmaceutical Company after he sold out drugs worth N16.1 million, he failed to remit the money,’’ he said.
Thomas said the offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The Magistrate, Mrs M.B Folami, ordered that the accused must produce two reasonable sureties, and adjourned the case till Feb. 10.
