Lack of ‘hand gloves’ kills accident victim in Ekii hospital, aggrieved relative alleges

Lack of ‘hand gloves’ kills accident victim in Ekii hospital, aggrieved relative alleges
A man, Seun Ajibulu, has petitioned the Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, Mr. Mojisola, Yahaya Kolade, over the sudden death of an accident victim, Ezekiel, Adedayo Folorunso, 28, who allegedly gave up the ghost on May 10 due to alleged negligence on the part of some staff members of the Ekiti State Specialist Hospital, Ikere, to give prompt medical attention and treatment.
Ajibulu, a school proprietor who described the circumstances leading to Folorunso’s death as pathetic but preventable, alleged that the hospital staff members gave several flimsy excuses why they couldn’t attend to Folorunso who was rushed to the hospital after the ghastly accident that left him bleeding profusely.
In his petition to the state’s health commissioner, Ajibulu said: “On Friday, May 10, 2019, at about 8:45pm, a victim of an accident Mr. Ezekiel, Adedayo Folorunso, was brought to the State Specialist Hospital, Ikere-Ekiti, as the nearest health facility. He was bleeding as a result of injuries he suffered in the accident and would need first aid treatment, even though he might need to be transferred to a facility with better requirements.
“Alas, the staff on duty brought a stretcher but refused to bring out the accident victim on account of non availability of “hand gloves.” One wonders when “gloves” becomes so expensive that a specialist hospital couldn’t make them available.
I, who was also involved in the accident but with minor injuries, had to personally bring out injured Folorunso and placed him on the stretcher. Again, the irresponsible and care-free staff declined pushing the stretcher. It was made clear that no medical doctor was attached to the hospital,” he said.
Ajibulu claimed further that after about 30 minutes of persuading the staff of the hospital, it dawned on him that the victim might not survive if he didn’t take a drastic step of moving him elsewhere, adding that “when it dawned on me that Folorunso might not survive the injuries as a result if the negligence of the staff, a decision was made with the help of some Good Samaritans who brought him to transfer him to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti. But the gateman would not open the alternative gate. He insisted that the vehicle carrying the injured must make a U-turn and go through a long route.
“Folorunso, though made it to Ado Ekiti and was promptly attended to by the medical staff on duty at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital who really battled to save his life but he didn’t survive due to the fact the he had lost too much blood during the delay by the staff on duty at the Specialist Hospital in Ikere, who refused to promptly give him first aid treatment.
“We therefore call on the Ekiti State government to immediately constitute a panel of inquiry in conjunction with the heath commissioner to investigate the circumstances surrounding Folorunso’s death and bring the erring staff to justice. Our investigation even confirmed the incident was not the first of its kind in that specialist hospital. What had happened to Folorunso could happen to anyone,” he said.

New minimum wage: What FG, state, company workers will get

New minimum wage: What FG, state, company workers will get
Dr. Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment says the National Minimum wage of N27, 000 is standard for all government and public company workers, but the Federal Government will pay federal workers N30,000.
According to the minister, President Muhammadu Buhari constituted a Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage (TCNMW) in November 2017 to consider the issue and recommend a new national minimum wage.
“In a bid to achieve a holistic coverage, the prescribed tripartite structure went beyond the requirements of tripartism to tripartite – in order to cover other stakeholders which included Nigeria Association of Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).
“Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria (MAN), National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) and the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA).
He said the ILO Conventions on minimum wage stipulated that each member state shall be free to decide the nature and form of the minimum wage fixing machinery, and methods to be followed in its operations.
He said that ILO further provided that before government took the final decision on the matter, there should be full preliminary consultations with representatives of organizations of employers, which the government did with TCNMW.
“The recommended new national minimum wage of twenty seven thousand naira (N27, 000) is for ALL categories of workers in Nigeria whether public or private sector and is so contained in the new national minimum wage Bill.
“The national minimum wage is for workers occupying the lowest rung of the remuneration ladder on Grade Level 1 step 1 and are the most vulnerable segment of Nigerian workers.
“It is of utmost importance to note that any public or private sector employer who is capable of paying more than the statutory N27, 000 should be ready to do so.
“The Federal Government has taken the lead in this direction by proposing to augment the N27, 000 by N3,000 to bring it up to Thirty Thousand (N30,000) for the least paid worker per month.’’
Ngige said the Federal Government expected others in the public and private sectors to do the same, if the financial capacity permits, employers can pay more than thirty thousand naira (N30, 000).
He noted that the matter of the national minimum wage was in the Exclusive Legislative List as item No. 34 of the Second Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Minister said it is the Executive arm of Government that has the responsibility to prescribe a new national minimum wage and send to the National Assembly (NASS) for legislative action and lastly to the President for assent.
He therefore called on the different groups interested in the contents of the 2019 national minimum wage bill already transmitted to NASS to get ready to make their views known at the public hearing.

My husband kidnapped, forced me into marriage for 10 years – Wife tells court
A house wife, Omowumi Lamidi, on Friday told a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, that his estranged husband, Mr. Mukaila Lamidi used his position as a member of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), to force her into marriage.
“On that day, Mukaila sent some hooligans to carry me into his home without my parents’ consent and in fact, he was the one, who deflowered me.
“Since then, he had maintained that I remained the best among all his wives and concubines.
“With my experience as a chemist, I refused to get pregnant for him despite all his forceful sexual intercourse with me.
“However, three years ago, I decided to have a baby for Mukaila because I knew that I was not getting any younger and there was no means of breaking out of his shackles.
“I even stood by him when he was sentenced to prison a few years ago. When Mukaila returned from the prison, he resumed his assault on me and his latest hit was his threat to take my life”.
She told the court that her parents were helpless about the situation and urged the court to separate them.
The bailiff told the court that Mukaila was not in court but that he had been served the court’s notices on several occasions, which he turned down.
President of the Court, Chief Ademola Odunade in his ruling then dissolved the 10-year-old union between the duo.
The court held that the court dissolved the union due to exploitation and the threat to life raised by Omowumi.
Odunade also advised Omowumi to avoid confrontation with Mukaila, popularly known as ‘Auxiliary’ for her safety.
He awarded the custody of the three-year-old child produced by the union to Omowumi and ordered Mukaila to pay a monthly feeding allowance of N5,000 for the child’s upkeep.
He also ordered Mukaila to be responsible for the child’s welfare, including education.

Express love with caution, curb HIV spread, NACA urges Nigerians
The National Agency for the Control of AIDS has advised Nigerians to avoid risky behaviours that might contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS during the Yuletide.
The Director-General of NACA, Dr. Sani Aliyu, who gave the advice in Abuja on Tuesday said that they should celebrate “cautiously within the context of caring deeply for their loved ones.”
Aliyu said: “As you celebrate, we want to encourage everyone to avoid risky behaviours that may contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country.
“Since Yuletide season is a time for people to express love to one another, we should express such love cautiously within the context of caring deeply for our loved ones.
“At this period, we demonstrate love by spending quality time together with loved ones and exchanging variety of gift items among ourselves.
`
“However, due to uninformed decision making, people engage in indiscriminate sexual and other negatives activities during festive period.
“We must set limits and monitor abuses that may result to any form of negative activity that may expose us to HIV infection.
“As we celebrate, let us be role models that will spread information on HIV and resolve to show love to persons infected and affected by HIV.
“NACA is appealing to the general public that in sharing gifts among our loved ones, we should not share HIV through risky sexual behaviors,” the NACA boss said.
Aliyu also encouraged Nigerians to go for free HIV test during this Christmas and New Year holidays in any of the government hospitals within their locality.

Women desire different penis sizes for different occasions

Women desire different penis sizes for different occasions
Since the dawn of time, man has pondered: Is my penis big enough?
Now the world is finally getting some answers, with study after study attempting to calibrate exactly what size and shape heterosexual women find ideal. #science
The latest penis comparison study, just published in the peer-reviewed journalPLOS ONE, is hoping to solve the riddle with the help of a 3D printer. Yes, in this provocative albeit very small study, researchers from UCLA and the University of New Mexico recruited 75 women ages 18 to 65 to come into a lab and not only visually assess various penis sizes but feel them.
The researchers printed 33 penis models, which all looked like bright blue dildos, for the women to evaluate. According to the authors, the penis models did not look like real-life penises because "women generally rate male nudes as less attractive than heterosexual men rate female nudes, so making the penis model more realistic might have provoked negative responses." (LOL.)
The researchers hoped to answer two major questions about penis size: Do women accurately remember penis size? And does penis size preference change based on what type of relationship a woman is looking for, short term or longterm?
The researchers first asked participants to fill out a questionnaire inquiring about their number of sex partners, whether penis size played a role in their relationships, orgasm frequency, pain during intercourse, and other deeply personal matters.
Next, the researchers handed each participant a blue penis model to inspect. Ten minutes later, she was asked to select the same model from among the other 32 other blue rods. This experiment was meant to explore whether women accurately remember penis size.
After the recall test, the women were asked to identify which penis models represented the average erect penis size of American men, and which they would prefer for a one-night stand versus a longterm relationship.
For the one-night stand, women were prompted with the question:
“Imagine you're single and you're out at a restaurant with some friends. You meet an attractive man who is also single. He seems kind, intelligent, funny, and has a great job. You are feeling sexually aroused. He says he's in town for a conference but he has to fly back home tomorrow afternoon. If you could spend only this one night with him, what size would you want him to be?”
For long-term relationships women were simply asked:
"What would be the ideal size for a husband or a serious, longterm boyfriend?”
Turns out the women were pretty good at recalling "penis size"—that is, in a simulated lab environment using 3D-printed blue rods instead of actual human penises. When asked to identify the correct model immediately after handling it, most of the women were able to locate it. After 10 minutes, about half of the women successfully identified it.
Notably, "participants slightly underestimated penis length after the recall interval, but were very accurate recalling penis circumference." Meaning, 10 minutes after handling a model, participants showed a slight tendency to chose a model smaller in length but not girth compared to the one they'd held. (That's right, guys—a woman might underestimate your length, but she'll remember the girth just fine.)
As for relationship preference, the women wanted a slightly larger penis for a one-night stand (6.4 inches in length and 5.0 inches in circumference when erect) compared to a longterm relationship (6.3 inches in length and 4.8 inches in circumference when erect).
The researchers believe there's an actual reason for this difference. Women, they say, are more comfortable orgasming in longterm relationships, so they may desire a longer, wider penis during a one night stand to stimulate more nerve endings in the vagina.
"[Women] might prefer a larger penis for short-term sex partly so the increased physical sensation compensates for the reduced psychological connection," theorize the authors.
However, bigger isn't always better in the long run because "vaginal intercourse always causes tears in the vaginal mucosa," write the authors, referring to tissues in the vagina, "so women might prefer a smaller penis less likely to stress their physiology for regular, long-term mates."
Both size selections—one-night stand and longterm mate—registered slightly above the average male's penis size as recorded in previous studies.
Average penis size reported by female participants in the PLOS ONE study
It's also worth noting that 27% of participants reported that "they had ended a relationship due, in part, to a mismatch between their penis size preference and their partner’s penis size."
While the study was an interesting exercise in memory, we can only extrapolate so much based on a woman's behavior in a simulated, decidedly nonsexual environment. It's entirely possible that feeling very attracted to someone and being in the heat of the moment may affect women's perceptions of size as well. Further research is definitely needed.
The takeaway, for now: Size might matter for some women, but only a little bit.
