A five man gang of suspected assassins on Wednesday night shot dead a
chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in cold blood at
Ughelli, Delta State.
The victim, Chief Owei Brinimugha who hails from Bomadi council area
of the state, was accosted by the hoodlums by Kess College junction
along Iwhrekpokpor road, Ughelli at about 8:30pm.
According to eye witnesses at the scene of the incident, the gunmen
shot the victim who is in his early 40s thrice on the head, chest and
leg after shooting twice into the air to scare away passersby.
Giving further details on the incident, one of the witnesses who
spoke on condition of anonymity, hinted that four of the gunmen alighted
from their car while a fifth gang member waited by the steering of
their car.
The source also hinted that the hoodlums after confirming the death
of their victim, made away with his Toyota car in company of their own
car. Efforts to speak with the Delta State Police Public Relations
Officer, Celestina Kalu was fruitless as at the time of this report.
However, a senior police officer attached to the Ughelli ‘B’ Division
confirmed the incident, adding that the police is on the trail of the
suspected assassins.
