Police, suspected militants in gun battle in Lagos

Police officers from the Lagos State Command are involved in a gun battle with suspected militants in Igando area of the state.

The suspected militants, who reportedly stormed the area at about 4 am on Tuesday, looted shops and sporadically fired shots into the air in an attempt to scare off residents.

Shortly after the militants started shooting, police officers arrived and engaged the suspected agitators in a gun duel.

Sources say the shootout left three policemen injured, while many residents have fled the area for safety.
