A 20-year-old man, Taiwo Salaudeen, was on Thursday put in the dock in Lagos for allegedly stealing a cellular phone valued at N56,000. Salaudeen is facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, unlawful damage and assault at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor, Mrs Anthonia Osayande, told the court that the accused and others now at large committed the offences on Eric Moore Road at about 9 p.m. on Nov. 5. Osayande, a sergeant, said the accused and his accomplices saw the phone fall off her bag and picked it. “When she accosted them, they broke the phone in her presence, pushed and dragged her on the floor,’’ she said. She said that the offence contravened the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Ipaye Nwachukwu, granted the accused N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum. Nwachukwu said the surety should provide evidence of tax payments with a verified address. She adjourned the case till Dec. 13.
