With the advent of the smartphone, digital cameras have transitioned from being the best device to use at special occasions or on a night out to a piece of tech that many feel is no longer worth investing in.
But a new wave of digital cameras are fighting back, with fantastic lenses, inbuilt filters and easy-to-share-on-social media features.
The top players like Canon, Sony, Panasonic and Olympus are making the most of their hi-tech components, with models including extra large sensors, interchangeable lenses and image quality that puts even the very best smartphones on the market to shame.
Other features include getting rid of the bulky bodies, creating a more pocket friendly and portable device.
