Kano State Police has stated that it recovered and confiscated hard drugs, Indian hemp and other illicit substances with a street value of N1.2 billion through various raids it carried out across the state.
A press statement made available to newsmen and signed by the spokesman of the state police command, Bompai Kano, DSP Magaji Musa Majiya, disclosed that an exercise codenamed ‘Operation Gida-Gida’ rolled out by the command yielded fruitful results, with over 250 drug retailers and addicts caught at their various domains.
The statement added that items recovered include over 900 cartons of Trammadol tablets, cocaine powder, 48, 000kgs of Indian hemp, hundreds of thousands bottles of cough syrups, Tutoline, Rephanol, Parkalin, Suck and rubber solutions.
“Of the importers and dealers of these hard drugs arrested so far, 90 per cent of them are not indigenous to the state, while their direct target consumers are young males and females 90 percent of whom are Kano State natives, “ according to the statement.
DSP Majiya revealed that international drug barons were also arrested and found with 500g of cocaine and heroine each and on board for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
According to DSP Majiya, between N600,000 and N800,000 was paid to each of them for every trip.
Machine used to seal cocaine and cellophane material used in making capsule cocaine for easy swallowing was discovered in one of suspect’s possession.
Those arrested by the police were Chinedu Mishael, Emma Mbubule, Louis Chigozie, Anthonia Erechi, Benneth Emeaghara – all of Imo State; Dickson Ofomale of Anambra State, Haruna Adamu of Katsina State, Henry Sunday of Edo State and Jamilu Idris.
When interviewed by our reporter, the suspects admitted involvement in one form of drug dealing or another.
