A notorious fraudster who specializes in using taxi cabs to swindle his victims has been arrested by police detectives from the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos State police command.
Parading suspects to journalists at the command’s headquarters, Ikeja, yesterday, the new state police spokesperson, SP Dolapo Badmus, said the suspect posed as a witch doctor, promising to cast out the devil in the spinster, and telling her that she had a spiritual husband that had been disturbing her marriage on earth.
According to the police chief, the woman and her mother fell for the trick and before they knew what hit them the man had defrauded the victim, Dayo, an oil and gas dealer in Apapa, of her N7.9 million.
The suspect, Ifatde Ademola, also sexually harassed the victim, Dayo, when he deceived her to swim in a pool of water to wash away bad spirits from her. When she naked in the pool, Ademola came to her where she was stark naked and attempted to rape her.
According to Ademola, who owned up to the offence, he had a shrine where he usually took his victims. He said he picked Dayo and her mother, Mrs Akinwale, at Iyana-Ipaja at about 11.30pm on November 2014. Since that time he had been swindling them in different ways.
He also said they brought a house help who he also promised to do spiritual work on so that they would know whether she is a good person or not.
At the last count, he had collected a whopping N7.9million from Dayo. He, however, denied collecting up to that amount, saying that the victims were lying about the amount he swindled her.
