The Plateau State commissioner of police, Adekunle Oladunjoye, paraded a man who allegedly poisoned his four-year-old son, Bwesaf Palony, to death with poisonous insecticide.
The CP said, “The suspect during interrogation confessed to the crime and will soon be arraigned in court.”
The Plateau State police boss, who made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in Jos yesterday, said police detectives from the SCID investigating the case of infanticide transferred by Operation Safe Haven, Jos, on the December 15, 2015, arrested one Miss Salome Samuel of Shonong village in Riyom LGA of the state who threw her baby down through a storey building.
He said that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have been impregnated by one Francis Salu – an Army officer attached to Makera Base, Riyom, but was transferred to a place unknown to her.
According to the suspect, when she was in Labour, she was delivered of the bady in an open place near her boyfriend’s room, and the baby died instantly.
She stated further that she had no option than to throw down the dead baby through the window of the building.
“The investigation into the case has been completed and as soon as the court resumes, the suspect will be arraigned,” he said.
Similarly, police operatives have arrested one Sohnan Sunday of Wase LGA who stabbed one Garba Vondung to death following a fight that ensued between them
“From the investigation, it was gathered that the suspect visited his wife, Chanchit Sohnan, in her father’s house at Wase to persuade her to return to her matrimonial home, which she deserted in May 2015 as a result of family misunderstanding between them.
“Unfortunately, the suspect met the wife and the deceased (Garba Vondung) making love in her house on that fateful day. Consequently, the suspect stabbed the deceased to death during a scuffle. The case will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” the CP said.
Oladunjoye listed items recovered in 2015 as 26 arms and 1,000 ammunition while 29 armed robbery suspects were arrested, and 29 robbery cases are under investigation.
He also revealed that 77 robbery cases were recorded in the year, with 22 suspects arrested and 77 others under investigation.
According to him, “37 cases of culpable homicide cases were recorded while 10 of the suspects were arrested as 5 rape cases were also recorded.”
The police boss said some of the strategies in minimising crime in the state include massive aggressive vehicular and foot patrols by police divisions.
